HEADLICE
The School Nurse will no longer be supplying schools with a leaflet on how to treat head lice. Instead, we have a link to the NHS website below as well as a document which can be downloaded giving advice and information to parents.
In school, we continue to ask that long hair be tied up. It is also important that hair which does not have lice is not treated unnecessarily. Through the Minor Ailments Scheme you can seek free advice and treatment from local pharmacies.
For more information please visit https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/head-lice-and-nits/
or use the link above to download the advice from the Health Protection Agency (opens in pdf)
CHILD PROTECTION
At Long Tower P.S. we have a responsibility for the care, welfare and safety of our pupils. We will carry out this duty through our Pastoral Care policies which aim to provide a caring, supportive and safe environment.
Members of our school safeguarding team are:
- Mr Eugene Dunn: Chairperson of the Board of Governors
- Ms Anne Mc Taggart: Designated Governor for Child Protection
- Mrs J Logue: Principal
- Mr I Gallagher: Designated Teacher
- Mrs C Hutchison: Deputy Designated Teacher
If you have concerns about your child’s welfare/safety; please contact any of the above members.
We have recently updated our Child Protection Policy. A copy of the policy and related Pastoral Care policies are available on our website at www.longtowerps.co.uk and from the school office. Summary Child Protection Leaflet outlining the above information, were given to parents in Term One, if you would like another copy of this, please ask the class teacher.
UK MATHLETICS COMPETITION
This week, our school is taking part in a UK Mathletics competition in the hope of winning numeracy resources for our school. Children will complete Mathletics activities in class and we would encourage children to spend time on Mathletics at home. Pupils will receive prizes for completion of tasks and mastering skills.
If your child does not have access to Mathletics at home, they are able to use Mr Gallagher's from 8:30 each morning this week to complete activities set by your child's teacher.
WORLD BOOK DAY THURSDAY 5th MARCH
This Thursday our school will be celebrating World Book Day with a range of fun-filled activities. Classes will carry out a range of book related activities. Children in P5-7 will read along with their Peered Reading partners in P1-3.
We ask that your child comes to school dressed up as their favourite book character and brings along their favourite book on the day. We would encourage costumes to be made at home from old clothes and materials as opposed to purchasing new costumes specifically for this day.
SPONSORED SPELL
Please help your child to get full marks in the sponsored spell by checking their spellings with them. Nursery and Primary One children will do a Nursery and Primary One Rhyme Challenge on Thursday. P2-7 will complete the sponsored Spellathon. The proceeds of the sponsored spell will go towards purchasing laptops for the school.
PATHS QUOTE
We all have two kinds of feelings ~ comfortable and uncomfortable. Comfortable feelings are represented by the colour yellow. YELLOW makes us think of sunshine and happy play times. Make today your yellow day. Put a smile on your face and look for the colour yellow all over our school.
RIGHT of the MONTH
The Right of the month for March is:
Article 29- The right to an education that helps to develop your talents and abilities. It should also help you to live peacefully, protect the environment and respect other people-The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.
PEANUT AND NUTFREE CLASSROOM
We have children in the school who have nut allergies. It is vitally important that you do not send food to school with your child that contains nuts. Nuts, peanuts or any products containing nuts or peanuts are NOT allowed in school.
